Wanzek Construction, Inc. was hired to construct the first large-scale wind project in the state of North Carolina. The project consisted of 104 Gamesa G-114 93M HH near Elizabeth City, NC. Wanzek scope included the construction of 327,000 LF of access roads to all turbine locations. Installation of the foundations included installation of rammed stone columns and at each location dewatering systems. Roughly 19 of the turbine locations were located in wooded areas which required deforesting and stump removal. The project site used one Manitowoc 16000 and four Liebherr LR 1750 cranes to complete the turbine installation activities. A portion of the power is being sold to Amazon.
