Job Title: Equipment Operator
 
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for operating several types of power construction equipment such as loaders, hydraulic excavators, tractors, Bobcat skidsters, scrapers or motor graders to excavate, move and grade earthwork; erect structural and reinforcing steel and pour concrete or other hard surface paving materials, setting equipment, installing underground piping; hoisting materials and performing demolition of structures.
 
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures
  • Turn valves to control air and water output of compressors and pumps
  • Adjust hand wheels and depress pedals to drive machines and control attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, swing booms, cables, etc.
  • Control levers and pedals on assigned equipment to lower bucket or scoop up material and lift, swing or dump material
  • Position crane boom and moving levers to control equipment hand wheels on machine to adjust a blade attachment
  • Perform maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines
  • Operators are responsible for maintenance of their machine; maintenance reports shall be filled out
  • May be required to travel to different jobsites on limited notice
  • Maintain a professional appearance
  • Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or Foreman
 
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, read engineering drawings and procedure manuals
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Workers should be able to work within precise standards of accuracy; follow set procedures and standards, judge distances and slopes accurately; and make decisions based on verifiable standards
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, and extreme heat
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud
